Troop 413’s March outing is a backpacking trip in the Uwharrie National Forest.

We will leave Christ Covenant Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm and return Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.

Friday night we will park at the Uwharrie Trail NC 24/27 parking lot, located approximately 9 miles east of Albemarle. Our Friday night camp site is about a half mile from the parking lot.

Scouts will take two different trails on Saturday –

  • Younger scouts and their leaders will hike about 5 miles
  • Older scouts will hike about 8 miles

The terrain is mild (no mountains).  We will meet Saturday night at a common campsite to enjoy tall tales about the day’s adventures.

After breakfast Sunday morning, we will hike the final 2 miles to Yates Place Camp Ground (SR 1146) stopping for a worship service along the way.

DO NOT bring a large coat.  They are bulky and you cannot wear them while hiking. Bring layers such as long underwear, long sleeve T-shirt, sweat shirt, another T-shirt and a rain jacket.  You will have all the layers you need to keep warm, and if it’s too cold for 5 layers then it’s too cold and we will come home.

Equipment and Uniform—

  • The uniform for travel will be the Class B, meaning the Troop 413 T-shirt
  • Pack the equipment on the attached equipment list
  • Pack check will be conducted at the March 18th troop meeting

 Menus—

  • Menus must be prepared during the March 11th troop meeting
  • Menus must be approved by the Patrol Dads on the 11th
  • Individual Patrol Leaders must follow up with the assigned Grub-Master to make sure the food is available

As always, we need:

  • Drivers (need to know number of passengers, other than driver)
  • Adult Grubmaster
  • Volunteer to lead worship service

Please let Nick Combs or Doug Leonard know if you can do any of these.
